Sailing the Silver Seas
Posted by Danny in What we're up to on October 28th, 2009
The SageCo team are so proud of our very own Retirement Coach, Judy Cole (pictured) who sailed her way to victory winning a SILVER MEDAL in last week’s World Masters Games held in Sydney (55-65 age group). Here’s what Judy had to say;
“I’m very chuffed, especially seeing the gale force wind conditions were not in my favour, and being light I was at a disadvantage!
However, I used wisdom and experience (and luck) to sail the first three races in survival mode, and make it around the track without breaking anything, or crashing, which was the cause of many making a premature return to the dock.
Just shows anyone can do anything if they put their mind to it, and then put in the hard yards!
Well done Judy - what an inspiration you are to us all!

Last night I attended the Chief Executive Women (CEW) Annual Dinner and was fortunate to hear the key note speech from one of Australia’s top female execs - Gail Kelly. At No 18 on this year’s Forbes List of Most Powerful Women, Gail ranked higher than Oprah and the Queen!
As CEO of Westpac, Gail has had quite a ride since her appointment some 20 months ago. A merger with St.George and the GFC to boot, Gail has aimed high and demonstrated great resilience. All this, and a mother of four children, including teenage triplets!
Gail articulated her main aims as being quite simple;
1. Be in the moment and 100% ‘present’ to whomever you are with - clients, staff, family or friends
2. Delight customers
Thank you Gail for leading the way!

Three perspectives of working and retirement

Last night on ABC radio’s Nightlife hosted by the golden voiced Tony Delroy and supported by a fabulous band of producers, we had three different callers contribute to the discussion on what ‘the extension of the retirement age means for you’. When I look at what was different between the three callers it was their attitude and sense of responsibility for their future. We heard examples of retraining at the age of 63 to be a lawyer specialising in insolvency and wanting to work until at least 75. We heard about a willingness to work casually and flexibly but a suspicion of ageism from employers. And we heard about the negative impact of the extension of the pension eligiblity age if you put your retirement plans solely in the hands of the government.
What did I take away from all of that. The best way to control your future is to create it. Download the podcast here.

Just when you thought it was safe to snuggle down in the duna and listen to the dulcet tones of the ABC’s Tony Delroy - be warned. I’m participating in a round table discussion on what the extension of the retirement age will mean for you. Call in and join the conversation! Wednesday 10 June 10 pm.
